They picked up the Most Popular Singer awards for the male and female categories, with Miriam finally shattering Joey Yung’s record of five annual consecutive wins.
Joey, however, did not go home empty-handed as she was named Asia’s Most Popular Female Singer.
Ever-gracious despite her obvious disappointment for her loss, Joey praised Miriam for being hardworking and a worthy winner during her speech.
Meanwhile, Eason Chan, a hot favorite but who lost out to Leo ultimately, looked distracted and expressionless after the awards show but he later told the media that it was not because he was unhappy.
He claimed that he was actually disappointed that his voice was hoarse and that he did not sing well.
The night’s happiest artiste was definitely Miriam, who was overwhelmed by emotions when the results were announced. In fact, she sobbed when giving her thank-you speech.
On allegations by some quarters that the results were rigged, Yeung told the media later: “Let the applause from the audience tell you if I am deserving of this award.”

As for her new car, she voices her unhappiness that information pertaining to the car registration could be so easily obtained by the public.
But the pretty artiste is staying positive and upbeat, saying her New Year resolution is to stay away from gossip and rumours.
At another event later, Tavia told reporters that her alleged boyfriend is actually her sister Yeung Na’s beau. This still does not explain the car, girl!
• SEXY Korean singer BoA (real name Kwon Bo-a) is looking forward to performing in the United States alongside superstar Rain and rising star Se7en.
The trio is hoping to make an impact in a joint performance, rather than individually, and gain a foothold there.
BoA released her debut single album Eat You Up in October last year and will release her first studio album targeting the American market early this year.
Rain, meanwhile, will make his Hollywood debut in July with Ninja Assassin and release a new album the following month.
Se7en will be holding promotional activities in the US next month along with Lil’ Kim, who is featured in one of his songs.
• KOREAN actress Jo An has to gain 10kg for her role in new movie Lifting King Kong, which revolves around a high school student who challenges herself to become a weightlifter.
The story is inspired by the life of Korean weightlifter Park Yeong-ja.
Currently, Jo An weighs just 40kg and being the professional that she is, she really is serious about getting into role for the character, including bulking up her physique.
Last seen in horror movie Wishing Stairs, she made her debut with Holiday and subsequently Moui: The Legend of a Portrait, where she shone as a screen siren.
• JAPANESE actor Hiroki Narimiya was the victim of theft during a private trip to Brazil. According to one report, he lost a bag, which contained his cell phone and passport, just after he had put it down. Fortunately, he still had his wallet on him.
• JEWELRY member Seo In Young celebrated New Year’s Day in hospital. Apparently she injured her toes while walking around in one of her famous heels. Yes, Seo is constantly photographed walking around in high heels.
• TAIWANESE artiste Cyndi Wang Xin Ling is back on the celebrity radar after a year’s absence.
Reporters who spotted her at a recent event found out that she’s planning a new album in the middle of the year and even a concert soon, styled after performances by Aaron Kwok and Kylie Minogue.
Another thing that the media found out was her obsession with Patrick Dempsey of Grey’s Anatomy.
Apparently she finds him so drool-worthy, she watches DVDs featuring the actor every day. Er, okay.
