Last Friday marked the 52nd birthday of Hong Kong singing legend .. Leslie Cheung.. had he not committed suicide in 2003. Till today.. it’s still a mystery.. as to why he did that. Some speculated Aids..?? some speculated unrequited love. Born in 1956, Leslie was hugely successful in Hong Kong both as a singer and an actor. He led a very private life.. and although he was very amicable.. with the media.. he kept very quiet .. where his private life was concerned. Good friends with Anita Mui who also passed away recently due to cancer, he had confided in Anita Mui who took his death very badly.
As friends of Hong Kong showbiz gathered in a concert last week.. that attracted a good 40,000 fans.. to marked and remember Leslie’s birthday in Chongqing’s Olympic Center, Leslie is still much missed by someone like me.. whom he never met.. but i’ve known him all my life. “Miss You Much Leslie Continuing Love Concert” was very appropriately named.. i think. Amongst friends, fans and family, Dicky Cheung, Patrick Tam, William So, Deanie Ip, Chilam Cheung, Joyce Cheng, Ella Wang, Winnie Xin and Grasshopper. were also there to perform with Jackie Cheung being the artistic director.
Does anyone remember Leslie..?? and missed him..?? I do..! and i wished he didn’t take his life.
